Lucknow | Bahujan Samaj Party will start its campaign for the Bihar assembly polls tomorrow with the slogan ‘BSP lao Bihar bachao’, on the ninth death anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram. On the launching of the campaign, BSP president Mayawati will address her first rally in Banka, and second one in Aurangabad.
Mayawati is expected to address 12 rallies over a span of six days, according to a tentative programme schedule released by BSP’s central unit. The BSP president will be accompanied by her trusted lieutenant and party’s Brahmin face Satish Chandra Mishra .
BSP will be contesting in all the 243 seats. BSP sources said that the party workers have been asked to host a series of meetings in all zones of the state in a bid to drum up support for the party that has. The party has been haunted by repeated electoral disappointments in the past.
A host of senior BSP leaders, especially Mayawati’s trusted aides MP Munquad Ali, MLC Naseemuddin Siddiqui and U.P BSP president Ram Achal Rajbhar have already been asked to camp in Bihar to resurrect the cadre. BSP movement has its roots in Bihar and the party had won assembly seats.
The party had drawn a blank in the 2010 Bihar assembly polls. In 2005, it won two seats after fielding candidates in 238 constituencies. BSP had bagged five of the 249 seats it had contested in 2000, when undivided Bihar had 324 assembly seats. Meanwhile, Mayawati is also expected to participate in the condolence function to be held at the Kanshi Ram memorial in Lucknow before departing to Bihar for campaigning.
