Bengaluru | The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice President Rahul Gandhi will be arriving in Bengaluru for a two-day visit to Karnataka with main agenda being to console the family members of farmers, who committed suicide in the State. Immediately after arrival at the Kempegowda International Airport, he will reach Mandya District by helicopter, visit some houses of the farmers and interact with them, besides expressing his condolences to them for the untoward incidents in their families.
In Mandya District, which is considered as sugar bowl, more than 23 farmers had committed suicide allegedly due to failure of monsoon and heavy debt made for crop growing. Mr Rahul will return to state capital in the afternoon and participate in a meeting of Gram Panchayat members and preside over Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Executive Committee meeting at Tripura Vasini in Palace Grounds.
After a overnight stay at Kumara Krupa Guest House, Mr Rahul will fly to Ranebennur and undertake a nine km Padayatra, visiting farmers houses before leaving to Delhi in the afternoon. According to official sources, more than 500 farmers have committed suicide in the State this year and July and August witnessed spurt in farmers taking extreme step.
According to Hubli report, preparations are going on in full swing to receive Mr Gandhi and for his visit the farmers’ family, who lost their kith and kins. An interaction by Mr Gandhi with the students has been arranged in the local primary school, where fifty students will participate. Four students have been selected to pose questions to him. One of the questions being asked is If you become the Prime Minister of India what will you give to the farmers Sixth standard student Vinayak Giriyammanavar is supposed to ask this question to Rahul.
