Palakkad | Notorious criminal ‘Aadu’ Antony, who was absconding for the past three years after stabbing to death a civil police officer in Kollam, was today arrested from his hideout at Gopalapuram, near Tamil Nadu border, in this district of Kerala early today.
The arrest was made, based on a tip-off, police said.
The 49-year-old man, against whom several cases were pending in different states, would be taken to Kollam later in the day in connection with the killing of police officer Maniyam Pillai in 2012. Another policeman also sustained injuries during the untoward incident.
Subsequently, a police team from the State had also visited Nepal after the mobile phone of the accused was traced to location in that country. It was believed that he had gone to Nepal and sold his mobile there. Thereafter, he was not using any phone.
The State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said, it was a major achievement of the police force and the personnel involved in the operation would be rewarded.
The State DGP T N Senkumar said, several police teams were involved in the operation.”We got a minor clue regarding his presence in the district and our team worked on it and finally arrested the culprit.”
