Kozhikode | The Kerala Congress (Jacob) , a partner in the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) today said it would field independent candidates in the three-tier local body polls slated for November in this district of Kerala. Talking to newspersons here, Kozhikode Parliament Mandal General Convener Salim Pulladi and Treasurer Thomas Peter, among others, said the decision to field rebel candidates were taken after the UDF denied ticket to the party, which was associated with the front since long.
The UDF hoodwinked the KC Jacob in the previous local body polls too, they alleged. The UDF considered the KCJ in other district, but ignored it in Kozhikode district as part of ”hidden agenda,” of major constituents of the front, they alleged.
They said KC (J) North Mandal President Babu Thomas will take on Congress mayor candidate in the ward and Koduvally Mandal Vice Preisdent Abdul Aziz will contest in its stronghold Kattippara district panchayat division against the official candidate.
It would also field candidates in other wards, they said, adding, talks were in progress with other like-minded parties and cultural organisations.
