New Delhi | It’s fasting time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister today started his official engagements by greeting the Nation on the auspicious occasion of Navratri.

Mr Modi, who himself observes a strict religious fast on Navratri, said in a message, Navratri ke paawan parva par deshwasiyon ko hardik shubhkmanayen, heartiest good wishes to countrymen on the occasion of sacred Navratri festival.
Prime Minister’s navratri fast had made international news last year as he was on US visit that time, which became a test both of his stamina and of protocol in US President Barack Obama’s White House.
Throughout a tight schedule that involved his participation in the United Nations General Assembly, a rally of Indian Americans at New York’s Madison Square Garden and talks with Obama in Washington, Mr Modi had restricted himself to a liquid diet throughout the Navratri festival.
He has been fasting for the last four decades without any break. It is common knowledge now that during Navratri days, Mr Modi wakes up at 0400 hrs, meditates, prays and carries his own bottle of lemonade with him.
He even does not take fruits or juices during the Navratri celebrations.
