Kochi | The export of coconut products during the first five months of 2015-2016 has touched Rs 600 crore, registering an increase of 6.5 per cent over the previous year. This could be achieved because of significant increase in the exports of virgin coconut oil, activated carbon, dry coconut and coconut oil, according to data from the Coconut Development Board.
Exports of virgin coconut oil from India during the first five months of this period was to the tune of 431 metric tons. United States was importing a major chunk of virgin oil. It has imported 288 metric tonnes of this commodity during the first five months, fetching Rs 916.71 lakh, as against 98 metric tonnes exported to US during the same period last year.
Japan was the second largest importer from India at 49.87 metric tonnes, worth Rs 117.73 lakh, the sources said.
with respect to actiivated carbon about 27125 metric tonnes had been exported during the same period from April to August. US was the top importer at 7526.82 metric tonnes, valued at Rs 7774.62 lakh, followed by UK at 2809.59 metric tonnes, valued at Rs 2960.42 Lakh.
The export of dry coconut also increased to 7700 metric tonnes, as against 7410 metric tonnes in the previous year, while Pakistan was the main buyer at 7289 mt during the period.
The export of coconut oil also registered a handsome increase at 2,998 metric tonnes as against 2434 metric tonnes exported in the previous year, fetching Rs 6925.33 lakh in foreign earnings. United Arab Emirates was the major purchaser , while United states, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Singapore were also importe coconut oil from India, sources said.
