‘Aalkoottathil Oranappokkam’, the first book penned by actor Jayaram that chronicles his widely-known attachment and love towards elephants, was released the other day by actor Mammootty.
Jayaram said the book’s title was inspired from the towering personality of Mammootty. “When I was young, once I saw a crowd of people, from which I could easily identify one person – that was Mammootty. So, the title actually reminds me of Mammootty,” he said.
Speaking after releasing the book, Mammootty said, though there are many actors who can make people laugh with their quick wit and repartee no one has expressed it in a book. “Jayaram, through his book, has shown that he is a good narrator in the written format too,” said the three-time national award winner.
Mammootty, who shared his experiences with Jayaram, said that only the few persons who are very close to Jayaram had experienced the real enjoyment of spending time with him. But, now, everyone who reads the book can experience him.
The preface of the book has been written by renowned author and Jnanpith Award winner M T Vasudevan Nair. Kuttappan, the mahout who took care of Jayaram’s own elephant Kannan for around 20 years, received the book from Mammootty. Writers M K Sanu, K L Mohana Varma and K C Narayanan also addressed the gathering.
