Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal hopes were kept alive Wednesday with a thrilling 45-run victory over Saurashtra at Perinthalmanna Cricket Stadium in Malappuram.
Chasing a target of 115 runs in the second innings, the visitors were bundled out by Kerala spinners for a paltry 69 runs.
Resuming at the overnight score of 16 for 1 on the third day, Saurashtra lost their second wicket before adding any run. In a lethal spell of spin bowling, Kerala’s hero Monish Kareparambil destroyed Saurashtra’s lower middle-order. Monish picked six wickets in the first and followed it up with five in the second innings.
Despite this loss, Saurashtra currently remains as the group leader, with 29 points from seven games. Kerala jumped up on the table with 25 points, including six points from this win.
