Abitha Mary, Aiswarya set new national record in Schools Athletics Meet

Kozhikode | Abitha Mary Manuel of AMHS Poovambayi, Kozhikode, has set a new national record on the third day of 59th Kerala State Schools Athletics Meet, which is being held at Medical College Olympian Rahman stadium here.

She finished first in 4:29.97 minutes in Junior Girls 1500 meters Monday. Babitha C of K. H. S. Kumaramputhur, Palakkad, who came second in 4:31.72 minutes, also bettered national record.

Aiswarya P.R. of Govt. V H S S Mathirappilly, Ernakulam, broke national school meet record in Junior Girls hammer throw covering a distance of 38.36 meters.

Two meet records were also broken today by the students of H. S.S. Parli, Palakkad.

Nitheesh C.T. won the gold in Junior Boys 5 KM walk with a record performance of 23:04.96 minutes, while Jyothisha . V found a new mark of 1.57 meters in Sub Junior Girls high jump.

Bipin George of Mar Baselious Kothamangalam completed a double-gold in distance running. Bipin, who won gold medal in 5000 meter race for senior boys on Saturday, won 1500 meter gold in 4:01.22 minutes Monday.

As the meet scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, Mar Basil H S S Kothamangalam is leading with 63 points, closely followed by H. S.S. Parli, 58 points.

And, on their strength, Ernakulam leads in the total points tally 123, with Palakkad at a close second position (112), respectively.
