Height of new buildings in the state will be raised as high as possible, says Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
He was speaking in response to a comment by Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan, who raised this issue during a discussion on P. Sreeramakrishnan’s call-attention motion in the Assembly on Monday.
In an apparent reference to former State Fire and Rescue Services Chief Jacob Thomas’ adamant stand on restrictions on high-rise buildings, Oommen Chandy said Kerala should think beyond three-storied buildings.
But at the same time, he made it clear there is no compromise in the matter of safety. Permissions for construction of flats were given in accordance with Kerala Bulding Rules Act, he said. The rules cannot be amended instantly, he added.
