Idukki district collector has reportedly said the Tamilnadu government has given assurance that water-level at Mullapperiyar dam will be lowered to 140 feet.
Meanwhile, latest reports say three shutters of the spillway, which were closed after water-level receded, have been lifted again Tuesday. As a result, 600 cubic ft. water will be released through Periyar River.
The water-level of Mullapperiyar dam has gone down to 141. 67 feet. All the eight shutters of the spillway, which were opened Monday to let excess water out, were closed later.
However, water flow to the dam continues unabated.
Water seeped into six houses in the perimeter of the dam after the shutters were lifted on Monday. The action by Tamilnadu government authorities at short notice evoked protest by the local people.
Kerala minister for irrigation, PJ Joseph, told the Assembly that the government will approach the Supreme Court raising this issue.
Despite concern over the risk of living in the face of inundation, residents have not yet moved to temporary rehabilitation camps.
