Neck-to-neck fight for championship as Schools Athletics Meet set to close

Kozhikode | Mar Basil H S S Kothamangalam and H. S.S. Parli, Palakkad, are in neck-to-neck fight for the champion school title on the last day of 59th Kerala State Schools Athletics Meet.

The results of a few events remaining on Tuesday afternoon will be crucial for Mar Basil, which is leading with 77 points, and H. S.S. Parli, which is just 2 points behind.

Palakkad (192 points) is inching closer to Ernakulam (209 points) in the race for the overall team championship.

On Tuesday morning, Abitha Mary Manuel of AMHS Poovambayi, Kozhikode, added a second new national record in her name, winning Senior Girls 800 meters race in 2:07.77 minutes. It comes a day after she finished first in 4:29.97 minutes in Junior Girls 1500 meters in record time.

Also, two new national records were broken in Triple Jump.

Anas N of H. S.S. Parli won gold with record performance of 15.01 meters in Junior Boys category, while Aiswarya PR, Govt. V H S S Mathirappilly (Ernakulam), set a new national record of 12.43 meters in Junior Girls section.

Lizbeth Karoline Joseph of St. Joseph’s HS Pulloorampara (Kozhikode) equaled meet record in Junior Girls triple jump with a leap of 12.12 meters.

Chanthini. C. of K. H. S. Kumaramputhur (Palakkad) shattered the state record in Sub Junior Girls 600 meters finishing in 1:37.48 minute.

The four-day meet, which is being held at Medical College Olympian Rahman stadium, will come to an end this evening.
