The Union Government will allocate Rs. 580 crore to Kerala for urban development this year.
This was disclosed by Union Minister for urban development, Venkaiah Naidu, after his meeting Thursday with a Kerala Government delegation, led by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Inclusion of more cities of Kerala in the central government’s smart city project is under consideration.
Guruvayur and Kannur will be included in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) project.
Also, an assistance of Rs. 1000 crore will be given to the public sector undertaking, FACT, on a set of conditions, Naidu said.
The Union government will consider the extension of Kochi metro, he added.
