Thiruvananthapuram | CPI(M) today pressed for the resignation of Oommen Chandy, saying there was some mystery behind solar scam prime accused Biju Radhakrishnan failing to produce purported video clippings against six powerful politicians, including the Chief Minister.
CPI(M) leaders said if mystery regarding the CD is not removed, the chief minister and other ministers will be under a shadow of doubt.
Chandy has turned out to be a person who supports all corruption. He supports Excise Minister K Babu who is facing corruption charges in bar case. He should resign, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said after launching a protest march of LDF activists at the Secretariat here demanding that Chandy and Babu should resignation.
Describing Chandy as the ambassador of solar company run by Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair, two prime accused in the solar scam, CPI(M) politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan said those in power should be above suspicion. Chandy and Babu should resign as people had suspicion about their role in the solar and bar cases, he alleged.
Oommen Chandy has no right to continue in the office even for a minute, he said in Alappuzha. CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the mystery on the CD’s disappearance, which Radhakrishnan claimed to have handed over to a relative at Coimbatore for safe- keeping, should be removed as early as possible.
If the mystery regarding the CD is not removed, chief minister and other ministers will be under a shadow of doubt, Balakrishnan said alleging that evidence, feared by Congress leaders, were there in that CD. Deposing before Justice G Sivarajan Commission, which is probing the scam, Radhakrishnan had claimed on December 2 that he is in possession of video clippings in which six powerful politicians, including the Chief Minister, is seen talking to his partner Saritha S Nair and engaging in wrong situations.
Radhakrishnan had said five others who figure in the video clippings included Labour Minister Shibu Baby John, Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar, Hybi Eden MLA, Congress leader Aryadan Shoukkath and one Nazarullah, a member of Anil Kumar’s personal staff.
He had said he showed the videos of five politicians with Saritha to the Chief Minister. He, however, did not deliberately show the sixth person’s video as it was reportedly the CM himself.
