Thiruvananthapuram | The Kerala Assembly adjourned for the day on Monday after Opposition disrupted proceedings in protest against Speaker refusing permission to introduce an adjournment motion alleging that the Government is trying to sabotage the functioning of G. Sivarajan Commission, which is investigating the solar scam.
After the Opposition was denied permission for adjournment motion, members of the Opposition walked upto the Dias of the Speaker, and raised slogans against him.
K. Suresh Kurup MLA issued a notice for an adjournment motion calling for a discussion on the Home Minister’s public criticism of the Commission. He added that Minister Ramesh Chennithala’s rebuke of the commission has created concern among the public. He accused the Government of abuse of power using police, and the Commission’s move to recover the so-called CD which Biju Radhakrishnan claims to contain intimate scenes involving the Chief Minister and Saritha S. Nair, the prime accused in the solar scam.
Suresh Kurup said the House should discuss the matter suspending other items on the agenda.
But the Speaker said since the matter had been discussed many times during the current session, it cannot be tabled as adjournment motion but can be allowed as the first submission of the day.
But the Opposition rejected this proposal.
Earlier in the day, the opposition came to the house holding placards and banners demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation. Opposition members stood up pressing the demand at the onset of the question hour, but later co-operated with the proceedings.
