Thiruvananthapuram | Speaker N. Sakthan did not attend the Kerala Assembly proceedings on Wednesday apparently in protest against the Home Minister’s controversial comments. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had criticized the Speaker’s statement yesterday that members should speak briefly in the House. It was in protest against this that the Speaker boycotted the Assembly.
However, Shakthan came to his office in the Assembly complex in the morning.
Deputy Speaker Palod Ravi is in the chair in his absence.
Tuesday, the Speaker said discussions on bills should be completed without any delay. But Chennithala retorted by saying that bills introduced in the House need to be discussed, which requires time. He added that bills cannot be passed just like baking buns. It was this comment which provoked Sakthan.
Minister K.C. Joseph is reportedly trying to patch up the issue.
