New Delhi | Jawaharlal Nehru University is working on an admission quota for children of its group C and D employees from the upcoming academic session. A committee constituted by the university to work out the details has submitted its report.

The committee report has now been sent to various JNU schools and departments for their feedback. The two files will be placed before the Academic Council (AC) which will take a call on the issue, JNU Vice Chancellor SK Sopory told . The proposal to grant admission benefits to children of the university staff was discussed in the last AC meeting in October. Unlike the teaching staff, they (group C and D employees) are not able to send their children to plush schools due to financial constraints.

Similarly, they also face difficulties in getting college education for their children, Sopory said. We plan to introduce the same from the upcoming academic session but how and how much is yet to be finalised, he added. According to the committee report, JNU will reserve maximum four or five seats every year under the proposed admission quota.

Admission to such students will be granted on supernumerary basis meaning, extra seats will be added to the current sanctioned strength, it said. However, a good show in entrance exam will be mandatory for children of these staffers. They will have to go through the exam. And only if they fare well and stay above the minimum eligibility marks, will they be granted admission under the said quota, the Vice Chancellor said.
