Thiruvananthapuram | Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has made a scathing attack of SNDP and criticized the attempts by certain communal forces to hijack the legacy of Srinarayana Guru’s ideals.
She was speaking Wednesday at a meeting in Sivagiri, Varakala, marking the inauguration of 83rd Sivagiri pilgrimage.
There is no greater betrayal of Guru than trying to divide the country on communal lines for political advantage, she said in an indirect reference to BJP.
Sonia expressed doubt if the current leadership of SNDP can act as the real campaigners of social equality.
Sonia noted that social justice, liberty and equality, which are the teachings of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, are more relevant now than ever before.
Earlier in the morning, the Congress party chief arrived in Thiruvananthapuram from New Delhi on a special flight. From there she proceeded to Sivagiri by helicopter.
From Sivagiri, Sonia left for Pampadi, Kottayam, where she is scheduled to inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology at 3 pm.
It will be followed by a meeting with UDF leaders at Nattakam guest house.
Sonia will return to New Delhi from Nedumbassery airport later in the evening.
