Aluva | SNDP Yogam President Vellappally Natesan Monday surrendered before police over his controversial remarks on the government aid to the family of an auto driver, who died while trying to save two laborers in a sewage canal manhole in Kozhikode last month.
The influential leader surrendered before Aluva police Circle Inspector. He was later released on bail after his arrest was recorded at Aluva police station.
In a speech he made during Samathwamunnettayaathra, the SNDP Yogam leader made a remark meaning the government announced aid to Noushad’s family on the basis of religion.
Aluva police registered a case against Vellappally for his comment against Noushad as per IPC Section 153-A, for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.
The High Court granted anticipatory bail to Vellaappally in the case on December 23. The court had directed him to appear before the investigating officer before January 10. The court said Vellappally deserves bail as he seems not to have committed anything wrong prima facie.
