Hyderabad | Famous Malayalam film star Kalpana (50) has died. The talented artist, who had undergone liver transplant surgery recently and was suffering from heart disease, died in the early hours of Monday.
The actress, who was staying a in a hotel in Hyderabad as part of acting in a Telugu movie, was found unconscious by a room boy in the hotel room at around 6 am. She was taken to Appollo hospital in the city. Reports quoting hospital sources said she was brought dead, apparently after suffering cardiac arrest.
A very versatile actress who enchanted millions of Malayalam movie lovers in comedy as well as serious character roles, Kalapana won the national award for best actress in a supporting role for her performance in “Thanichalla Njan”.
Kalpana made her debut as a child actress in Vidarunna Mottukul in 1977. She acted in more than 300 films, including in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu.
Kalpana was born to theatre artists Chavara V.P.Nair and Vijayalakshmi. Popular actresses Urvashi and Kalaranjini are her siblings. She lost her two brothers Kamal Roy and Prince in their young age.
Kalpana and film director Anil Kumar divorced in 2012. Their daughter Sreemayi was staying with Kalpana.
Among Kalpana’s Malayalam hits are Ennum Eppuzhum, Karnavar, Dolfins, Bangalore Days and Spirit. Her body is expected to be brought to Kerala later today, and will be laid for public view in Thrippunthura.
