Governor’s policy address amid Opposition boycott

Thiruvananthapuram | Governor P. Sadashivam has made the Kerala Government’s policy address in the Assembly on Friday amid Opposition boycott.

When the House convened for the budget session in the morning, Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan requested the Governor not to go ahead with the speech on behalf of a corruption-tainted Government.

The Governor replied by saying that he can understand the Opposition’s feelings, but at the same time, he must be allowed to carry out constitutional responsibility. When the Opposition members continued disrupting the proceedings, he asked them to keep silence or go out. Members walked out of the Assembly and started sit-in protest near war memorial.

The governor went on with his speech highlighting multi-faceted achievements of the UDF-government. He described the past five years of the government as the golden era of the state.

Kerala’s growth is more than that of the National average, he said.

The governor said the first stage of Kochi metro rail will be completed in June. The first stage of the smart city will be completed this year.

Supplyco outlets will be opened in all panchayaths.

The construction of Kannoor airport is has reached half-way.

Multi-specialty diagnostic centers known as Karunya diagnostic services will be opened by 2020.

The Governor also announced an insurance scheme for duck farmers, and ‘Operation Anantha’ to avoid water logging in the capital city.

All treasury transactions will be made paperless.

Kochi regional cancer center will be completed this year.

The Governor claimed that the Vizhinjam project will help India ascertain its supremacy in the Indian Ocean.
