Thiruvananathapuram | Chief Minister Oommen Chandy presented the fifth and final budget of the current government in the Kerala Assembly Friday amid Opposition boycott.
Oommen Chandy presented the State budget for 2016-17 as he holds Finance portfolio after Finance Minister K.M Mani resigned in November 2015 after an adverse remark by High Court on the bar bribery case.
In the morning, Opposition MLAs entered the House holding banners and placards demanding resignation of corruption-tainted ministers.
As the Chief Minister began his budget speech, the Opposition protested by pointing out that important budget details were leaked before it was presented.
Opposition members left the House and staged a sit-in protest outside, while the Chief Minister continued his budget speech.
It was after a 29-year gap that the Kerala Assembly saw a Chief Minister presenting the state budget. Chandy is the fourth Chief Minister of the state to present the budget.
