BJP Hartal affects normal life in Ernakulam district

Kochi: Hartal called by BJP in Ernakulam district affected normal life on Wednesday.

BJP and other Sangh Parivar outfits are observing hartal in protest against injuries sustained to their activists, including Mahila Morcha state president Renuka Suresh, during a protest march to Thrippoonithura police station over the suicide attempt by a dalit student of RLV Music College.

Hartal was peaceful and partial. No untoward incident was reported.

KSRTC operated nominal city services, while its long distance buses coming from outside Ernakulam district passed through KSRTC bust stand carrying passengers.

Police operated a few parallel bus services from South railway station and KSRTC bust stand. The vehicles picked up and dropped travelers at various destinations inside the city.

Private buses are not plying in the district, which left hundreds of passengers stranded at bus stops.

Hundreds of two-wheelers and a few four-wheelers could be seen on roads.

Shops and establishments remained closed. BJP workers are not allowing shops to open.

Attendance at Kochi Port Trust and Industrial area was partial.

Attendance at Government offices was around half of the employee strength.

IT organizations functioned normally.

MG University had postponed all examinations scheduled for today.
