Thiruvananthapuram | BJP is observing a 12-hour hartal in Thiruvananthapuram district Tuesday protesting attack on its workers by CPI-M.
Response to the hartal call was partial, reports say. While vehicles plied on roads, shops remained closed. No untoward incident was reported.
Vehicles were exempted from hartal in view of the ongoing SSLC, Higher Secondary examinations.
Former Kerala BJP state President V Muraleedharan was among 16 persons injured in a clash between workers of the party and CPI-M at Kattayikonam Monday. A procession of BJP activists on certain local issues resulted in the clash with CPI-M workers, police said. The clash occurred after stones were allegedly pelted at the processionists. Both BJP and CPM workers were injured. The 16 injured were treated at the Medical College Hospital.
Rural SP Sheffin Ahmed said the culprits behind the attack were identified, and will be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) has called a hartal in Kazhakkoottam.
