Chalakkudi | Police have arrested a man who brewed arrack that was consumed in an alcohol party at Kalabhavan Mani’s outhouse named “Paadi”, after which the noted film actor collapsed.
Six people, including Joy from Varantharappally, are in police custody in this regard. Police will register a case against them under Abkari Act, and question them. Three bottles of arrack have been confiscated.
Meanwhile, Kalabhavan Mani’s manager Jobi told media that pesticides were not used on nutmeg plantation in Paadi.
Police have received information that Mani’s friend Joemon, a native of Chalakkudy, supplied the locally brewed arrack to Paadi before February 15. He is currently staying abroad, and police are trying to bring him back to Kerala.
Meanwhile, police said film actor Jaffer Idukki and TV show presenter Sabumon, who are Mani’s friends, will be questioned again after new revelations. Both of them were with Mani during the alcohol party, after which he fell unconscious.
Mani’s brother RLV Ramakrishnan had alleged mystery over his death, and said that he suspects Mani’s friends in it.
Police had questioned Sabu and Jaffer, and their statements were found to be contradictory.
