Kochi | Cardinal George Alenchery has said that those who become richer by accepting bribes and through corruption should remember that they are stealing the money from poor people’s pockets.

The head of the Syro-Malabar Church said this while delivering a sermon during the Maundy Thursday mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral church, Ernakulam.

Intolerance and splitting people in the name of nationalism cannot be justified, he added.

He washed the foot of 12 believers during the holy mass, a symbolic tradition of Catholics all over the world, remembering the gesture by Jesus Christ who washed his disciples’ foot.

Maundy Thursday commemorates the Passover Jesus and his disciples celebrated, as well as his Last Supper, the day before he was crucified.
