Dehradun | Congress has demanded reconstruction of Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s ‘samadhi’ at Kedarnath which was badly damaged in the massive deluge that hit the ancient Himalayan shrine in 2013.
Making the demand through a letter handed to Governor K K Paul yesterday, Uttarakhand Congress President Kishore Upadhyay said Jagadguru Shankaracharya’s grave was built at Kedarnath to preserve his memorabilia.
Jagadguru Shankaracharya, who is credited with building Badrinath, one of thefour Himalayan shrines or chardham for which Uttarakhand is famous all over the world, is said to have attained salvation (Mahaprayan) in Kedarnath. Demanding immediate reconstruction of the seer’s grave at Kedarnath, Upadhyay said his life could be a source of inspiration for future generations.
