Surendran, contractor of the Puttingal temple tragedy fireworks passes away

Kochi | Among the accused Surendran hailing from Kazhakuttam died in hospital. Surendran was the one who conducted the competitive fire works at the temple, situated at Paravoor, a semi-urban area about 60 km from the state capital.

Police said seven persons of the management committee associated with the contractor of the fireworks display have been detained for questioning.

At least more than 1000 are injured persons, 111 people have been declared dead so far and others are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kollam and the state capital.

The mishap occurred as sparks of the fireworks fell on the storeroom ‘Kambapura’ and the fire crackers kept there exploded with a deafening noise. The blaze spread quickly trapping devotees within the complex, leading to several deaths.
