Thiruvananthapuram | Nino Mathew, the prime accused in the Attingal double murder case, was sentenced to death, and Anu Shanthi, the second accused in the case, was sentenced to life imprisonment Monday.
Both of them have also been fined Rs 50 lakhs each. Out of this, 50 lakhs should be given to Lijeesh, the husband of Anu Shanthi, and Rs 30 lakhs to Lijeesh’s father Thankappan Chettiyar.
Thiruvananthapuram Principal Sessions Judge V. Shers said Anushanthi, who got her own child killed, is a shame to maternity. The court categorized the case as rarest of the rare.
The court had earlier found that Nino Mathew and Anushanthi have committed murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy.
The murder that shook the conscience of Kerala took place on 2014 April 16. Nino Mathew was the Project Manager of a firm in Technopark, and Anushanthi was the team leader in the same institution. Both of them were in deep love, and to avoid his lover’s family from his life, Nino hacked to death Omana, the mother-in-law of Anushanthi, and her three-and-a-half year-old daughter in brought daylight after entering their residence.
Lijeesh escaped murder attempt.
