Mumbai | An online facility for obtaining character certificates was launched today by police here. The facility would be available on the government portals `www.pcs.mahaonline.gov.in’ and `www.aplesarkar.mahaonline.gov.in’.
Applicants can upload required documents and digital signature online, and then present himself or herself at the police station of the area for verification of credentials. Special branch (SB) G Unit will do the further processing and issue the certificate.
Applicants would receive text messages about the status of the application and can also download the certificate online when it is ready. Thus, he or she will have to visit the police station only once.
This entire process gets completed in just 10 days, said Additional Commissioner of Police (Central Region) R D Shinde.
Earlier, applicants had to visit the Special Branch Unit-1 office in south Mumbai at least twice or thrice to get the character certificate, Shinde said, and the process would take more than two months.
