Ahmedabad | A 14-year-old boy was mauled to death by a lion in Ambaradi village in Amreli district on Friday, officials said. The animal attacked the boy, son a labourer, when he was sleeping with his parents outside their house in the village, located near the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary early this morning, they said.
A lion attacked the boy and took him away in to the nearby forest when he was sleeping along with his family outside their house, located on the border of lion sanctuary Deputy Conservator of Forest(DCF), Dhari-East range of Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, T Karuppasamy said. After searching for over 3 hours, we found only some body parts of the boy. The family has come here to work at a mango orchard.
Though they have been provided a room by the owner, the family was sleeping outside, which might have prompted the lion to attack the boy, the DCF added. The village falls in between a corridor used by a group of 16 lions to access waters of Shetrunji river.
Had the family slept inside their room, they may not have been attacked. We have asked villagers to understand behaviour of lions and adhere to our advices of not sleeping in open in this area, Karuppasamy added.
