Coimbatore | A city-based teenager, suspected to be working as a bonded labourer at a ‘sweetmeat’ shop at Mangaluru in Karnataka for the last one year, returned home today.
His mother, 58-year-old Pechiamma had petitioned the City Police commissioner a couple of days ago seeking to restore her 14-year-old son to her as the family was not able to communicate with him for the last one year.
Praveenkumar was sent to the shop one year ago by his father, who died some five months ago, the woman said.
Her son was not sent for the last rites and even for the wedding of her first son, Pechiamma said in her complaint and expressed fear that her younger son was being treated as bonded labourer.
Based on the complaint, a police team was sent to Mangaluru, but before reaching there the boy was found at Podanur railway station, reportedly dropped by the owner’s men, police said.
Police picked him up and after questioning him, restored him to the mother this afternoon, they said.
