Kavalam (Alappuzha) | Renowned theatre director, poet Kavalam Narayana Panicker has been laid to rest with full state honors at his ancestoral house premise in Kavalam ‘Sreehari’, near Pampa lake.
He, who successfully blended the classical tradition and folk elements in the format of contemporary theatre, passed away at his home Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
Kavalam was a multi-faceted personality who carved his niche in divergent fields, being a well-established poet, lyricist and theatre director. Untouched by the western influence in dramas, Kavalam had evolved a unique theatre training system with an Indian perspective.
As his last wish, he was offered a folk song tribute by his closest friend, companion, the legendary actor Nedumudi Venu and team.
Kavalam Sreekumar, son of Kavalam Narayana Panicker lit his father’s funeral pyre.
