New Delhi | The union Cabinet Wednesday gave approval to 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
If they are implemented, there will be an average of 23 percent increase in the salary of Central Government employees.
The pay hike, which will have retrospective effect from 2016 January 1, will benefit 55 lakh pensioners and 48 lakh employees.
The Pay Commission, chaired by AK Mathur, recommended that the basic pay should be increased from Rs 7000 to Rs 18000. But a Committee headed by Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha recommended a hike of 23.5 percent, or a basic pay of Rs. 23000.
