‘The Violin Player’ wins top award in Durban Film Festival

Kolkata | Bauddhayan Mukherji’s second feature film The Violin Player has won the best feature film award at the 37th Durban International Film Festival. Starring Adil Hussain and Bengali actor Ritwick Chakraborty of Shabdo fame, the movie was the only Indian feature in the competition section of the recently held festival.

The jury described the film as a seductive and mysterious tale of a violin player’s mundane life, and an interesting take on how chance encounters are almost predestined, the director said quoting the award citation note from the festival committee.

The Violin Player is the one day story in the life of a Bollywood session violinist, who finds expression to his dreams at an unlikely place.

The day then unfolds to reveal startling truths about music, art, life and survival. After having its World Premiere at MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) as part of India Gold, the film also opened the International Film Festival of Thrissur earlier this year and was the only Hindi movie in the International Competition at the IFFK, Kerala.

The film has been selected in competition in the upcoming Stuttgart Indian Film Festival. It has also has been picked up by Alpha Violet, one of France’s leading sales agents which marked their first ever Indian acquisition.
