Three-day ‘Adirang’ festival begins in Nashik tomorrow

Nashik | A three-day ‘Adirang festival’ to focus on the culture and traditions of the Indian tribal folk, will be held at the Dadasaheb Gaikwad auditorium here from tomorrow.

The national festival is being organised by New Delhi based National School of drama (NSD) in association with Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). According to NSD director Professor Dr Wamanrao Kendre, about 500 Adivasi artists from across the country will participate in the festival.

Kendre said in our country there are 10 crore adivasis (tribes) and NSD is working to bring out their culture and traditional artform on to a common stage. Adivasi artists from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Manipur, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and other states will perform at the festival. Also, an exhibition consisting of 50 stalls has been set up to sell Adivasi handicrafts, ornaments, and other things.

A two-day seminar on nature and adivasi music, dance and drama will be also held on the occasion, Kendre told reporters here.
