Palakkad | Transport Commissioner Tomin J. Thachenkary has conducted a surprise inspection at Valayar check post on Wednesday midnight. Within half an hour the Commissioner caught red handed five vehicles that left the checkpost without paying tax amounting to Rs. three lakhs. It was also found that security officials were letting vehicles pass the check post accepting bribe.
Commissioner checked the vehicles that passed the check post and entered the national high way to Palakkad. Many vehicles were passing through the Valayar check post without permit or without valid documents. One lorry that was carrying granite from Bangalore to Malappuram was found to be the worst in tax evasion.
The lorry managed to pass the check post without any proper papers by giving Rs. two lakhs as bribe to the officials and the mediators. The Commissioner had verified the documents at the check post. He said he would report this to the government recommending action against the corrupt officers.
