Thiruvananthapuram | Vigilance Special Court Thiruvananthapuram has ordered follow-up investigation in the Bar bribery case against former Finance Minister KM Mani.
The court order is based on a writ filed by Vigilance SP R Sukeshan alleging serious irregularities in investigation carried out by Shankar Reddy in the case.
SP R Sukeshan was the investigating officer of the case, based on a complaint by bar owner Biju Ramesh that bar owners’ association had paid Rs. 1 crore as bribe to get a government order to reopen closed down bars in the state.
In the writ filed in the Vigilance court, Sukeshan alleged that he was forced to give a clean chit to KM Mani in the investigation report under pressure by Shankar Reddy, who was the Vigilance Director during the final months of the previous UDF Government.
DGP Jacob Thomas, who is the current Vigilance Director, has responded to the court order saying a strong investigation in the case is possible if the court allows his department to do so.
He told reporters that Vigilance wing of the state police is not a caged parrot now.
