Mumbai | Following the BMW G 310 R, scheduled for launch late this year, BMW Motorrad has been readying an adventure version of the same with the moniker BMW G 310 GS. The latter is scheduled for a debut in late 2016 with a launch in early 2017.
The BMW G 310 R is a motorcycle designed and developed by the motorcycle wing of the BMW,, the BMW Motorrad, in Germany. However, the manufacture has been taking place at the TVS Motors plant at Hosur, out of a tech collaboration between the auto giants.
The G 310 R was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. The motorcycle is aimed at the premium motorcycle market, which has been booming, in parallel with the commuter segment in India. So, BMW wants to cater to this premium segment beginning with the least priced model.
The G 310 R will be the least priced model out of the BMW stables to be powered by a 313 cc engine. Expect BMW to price it around Rs. 2-2.2 lakhs in India, with a launch in the festive season or later.
Now, after the launch of the BMW G 310 R, BMW also wants to launch the adventure version of the same. The BMW GS series models are top-selling models in Europe for the German manufacturer.
So, India is realizing the need for an adventure version that helps undertake long travels along with off-road capabilities. The off-roader or adventure tourer will also be a dual-purpose motorcycle, which will sport a lighter body weight for all-road capabilities.
Like the G 310 R, the G 310 GS will also be powered by the liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 313 cc engine that develops 35 PS of power and 28 Nm of torque. The engine will get mated to a 6-speed transmission like the G 310 R.
