Kannur | A young BJP worker was hacked to death at Pinarayi on Wednesday, two days after the murder of a CPI-M activist in the district.
The deceased has been identified as Remith (25), police said, adding that the incident occurred at around 10.30 AM near a petrol pump at Pinarayi. He suffered severe injuries on his neck, face and head. Though he was rushed to the General Hospital in Thalassery, he was declared dead on arrival.
Pinarayi is the home town of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Waynad Superintendent of Police, K Karthick, who also has charge of Kannur, said he was rushing to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Kannur has witnessed a series of attacks on political workers in the recent past. Remith’s father, Uthaman, also died as a result of political violence eight years ago.
Police security in Kannur was tightened after a CPI (M) activist was murdered by a six-member gang at Pathiriyad in the district two days back. CPI (M) pointed fingers at RSS for the attack on Kuzhichalil Mohanan (40), who was a toddy shop worker.
