Beijing | A TV series adaption of “Red Star over China”, the famous book by US journalist Edgar Snow, will be screened in China this week.

“Red Star Over China,” written in 1937 by Snow – the first American reporter who had a close association with Communist Party leader Mao Zedong – was one of the most influential books with a western understanding and sympathy for the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the 1930s.

The 30-episode TV series starting on Saturday will be faithful to the original book, extensively depicting military and political developments in China, “especially Chinese bravery in fighting against Japanese invaders,” state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The first western journalist to meet Mao and other CPC leaders, Snow recorded the first authorised account of Mao’s life, as well as the history of the Long March and the people responsible for the Chinese revolution that made China the country it is today.
