Hyderabad | To “awaken the society” and highlight that growing consumption of liquor is wrecking havoc in the society, senior BJP leader in Telangana SV Seshagiri Rao would undertake a 24-hour fast on November 11 to protest against the liquor policy of the TRS government.
Recalling a recent road accident here by a group of alleged drunken people in which few members of one family lost their lives, state BJP president K Laxman said the scourge of liquor consumption is destroying families on a large scale.
“There is no bigger betrayal against people than government letting liquor shops, bars and permit rooms remain open till 12 o’clock in the night with an eye on revenues, though lives of people in rural areas is destroyed,” Laxman said.
Ghastly road accidents, domestic violence and addiction among teenagers are all consequences of liquor consumption, he alleged.
Seshagiri Rao, a retired professor, would undertake the fast for 24 hours from 10 AM on November 11, the state BJP president said, adding that the fast is the beginning of the party’s agitation on the issue.
