Thiruvananthapuram | With Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying thrust on moving toward cashless society, BJP in Kerala on Tuesday announced it would launch a ‘digital banking literacy mission’ to create awareness among public and train them in using digital technology for transactions.

Party state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said here that the mission would begin in Kochi on December 3.

“Our aim is to create awareness among people about the digital banking and give them training to use digital technology for transactions,” he told reporters.

A special state-level committee, comprising banking experts, will be formed to implement the mission, he said.

Under the drive, awareness would be created on the role of digital banking in checking black money and training would be imparted about the modes of digital transactions, he said.

Trained party volunteers would be deployed at the panchayat level for this, he said adding those residents’ associations, local clubs, and NGOs would be roped in for its effective implementation.

The party also has plans to make select Panchayat as total cash-less areas, Rajasekharan added.

In his first ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme after he announced the demonetisation move on November 8, Modi had yesterday asked the youth and other sections to move towards a “cashless society”.

He had also urged the youth to go to ten families and small businessmen and teach them how to use mobile technology to carry out digital transactions which, he said, were “safe and secure.”
