E Ahamed laid to rest

Kannur | The mortal remains of former Union minister and Indian Union Muslim League leader E Ahamed was laid to rest at his native place in Kannur today. The state honoured burial took place at the City Juma Masjid in Kannur.
Apart from Muslim league’s an array of leaders representing various political parties and public in large numbers attended the funeral procession. Hundreds flocked in the early morning to the venue in a local school where the body was laid down for public view.
Kannur district observed a hartal today as a mark of respect to the departed leader. Mr Ahamed passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday at a hospital in New Delhi after he suffered a cardiac arrest while attending the parliament session on Tuesday afternoon.
The 78-year-old leader’s body was taken to Kerala yesterday and kept at Karipur airport for the public to pay homage. Later the body was brought to his ancestral home situated here.
Ahamed, the sitting MP from Malappuram suffered a cardiac arrest during the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on the eve of the budget day.
Ahamed’s family had alleged that they were not allowed to meet the leader in hospital and the controversy over the alleged acts by some quarters is still brewing.
