Kottayam | Angry passengers blocked Shornur-bound Venad express at Kottayam railway station Thursday morning after it arrived there around one and a half hours late.

The popular passenger train, which carries thousands of employees to destinations between Thiruvananthapuram and Shornur daily, was scheduled to arrive at Kottayam at 8.02 am. But it arrived only at 9.27, 85 minutes late. Passengers, tensed over the delay, staged a sit in protest in front of the engine demanding that they will not allow the locomotive to proceed unless the authorities give satisfactory explanation for the undue delay.

Following this, train traffic through Kottayam was partly disrupted.

The train is running late because of new frequent stops at stations in short distance, authorities say.

Meanwhile, passengers besieged the station master at Ettumanoor railway station, where the train was supposed to reach at 8.17 a.m.
