Free Internet connection to 20 lakh families

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Government will provide free Internet connection to 20 lakh families in the coming financial year. This was announced by Finance Minister Thomas Isaac presenting the state budget for the FY 2017-18 Friday.

Rs. 1000 crore will be allocated for internet expansion scheme Known as K-phone.

The minister announced that 1 lakh IT jobs will be created in Info Park by 2020.

The Government will spend Rs. 549 crore for Information Technology sector development.

A huge Rs. 2600 crore has been set aside for Scheduled Castes, and Rs. 700 crore for Scheduled Tribes.

The Government also plans to introduce Medical insurance for Government employees.

Other major budget packages:

Rs. 9748 crore for local self governing bodies.

Rs. 2100 crores for agricultural sector.

250 BUDS schools will upgraded as aided schools .

Rs. 700 crore for paddy procurement.

Rs. 200 crore for Civil Supplies Corporation.

Rs. 150 crore for Consumerfed.

Rs.30 crore for Horticorp.

Rs. 117 crore for ration computerization.

5% job reservation for differently abled persons.

Restriction for availing two pensions.

Rs. 90 crore for Kasargod package

Rs. 1200 crore for fisheries sector.

Fishermen accident insurance amount increased.

A scheme for the revival of Rubco.
