97% increase in atrocities against women in Kochi in 5 years

Kochi | Atrocities against women have increased by 97 percent in Kochi in the last five years, data shows.

Of 14061 cases of atrocities against women registered in Kerala, 522 cases were in Ernakulam district, ranked fourth.

Cases include harassment inside buses and trains, chain-bag snatching, attacks inside ATM, acid attack, black mailing, and sexual harassment.

Women in Kochi are attacked mostly during evening hours, between 5 pm and 8 pm. The victims are mainly working women and students.

If women were harassed in remote areas previously, now a days such incidents take place in buses, public roads and even shopping malls.
