Kannur | Booked for allegedly circulating a fake video related to the May 12 killing of an RSS worker, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan today said it was a bid to divert people’s attention from issues linked to the killing.

“It was an attempt to divert people’s attention from the issues connected with the killing,” he told reporters here.

He reiterated that the video of CPI(M) workers ‘celebrating’ the killing of RSS worker Biju, that he posted on Facebook , was original and not a fake one.

Rajasekharan said he would face the case legally and go to any lengths to see that he gets justice.

The BJP state president was booked by police yesterday under IPC Section 153(a) (promoting enmity between groups) for posting the video on a petition by Muhammed Siraj, district secretary of Students Federation of India, the CPI(M)’s student wing.

Biju was hacked to death at Payyanur town in Kannur district, which has witnessed a series of clashes between ruling CPI(M) and the RSS for the past one year.

He was an accused in a case relating to the killing of a CPI(M) worker in 2016.

He was out on bail when he was killed.

The CPI(M) has rejected Rajasekharan’s charge and alleged that the BJP leader was trying to add fuel to the fire.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had stated in the assembly on May 15 that the government would register a case against Rajasekharan after examining the video and also that the BJP leader’s claim was incorrect and illegal.
